Italian Twist on Pizza…
Who doesn’t love pizza? This is my Italian Pizza Recipe. Pizza is on of my favorite things to eat because there are simply SO many ways to make one. I love using whatever I have in the fridge or pantry to create a truly unique pizza. It’s never the same twice. 🙂
To make this a quick and easy meal, simply start with a store-bought, prepared crust and load it up. Below I’ve included my topping ingredients, as well as my homemade pizza crust recipe.
Now I know what you’re thinking – homemade crust is too much work! But really it’s simple. The pizza crust can be made with your bread machine and then frozen until you need it.
Prep time: 15 minutes (excluding crust preparation)
Pizza Topping Ingredients:
- 2-3 tablespoons prepared pesto
- 1 can quartered artichokes
- 1/2 cup sliced black or kalamata olives
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3/4 to 1 cup of gorgonzola cheese crumbles
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Store-bought, prepared crust – Place on pizza pan and drizzle with olive oil.
Spread pesto over crust and sprinkle crust with garlic powder.
Top with remaining ingredients and cook for 10-12 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is crisp.
Frozen pizza dough crust (see recipe below) – Place dough in a warm place, cover and let raise.
Roll out dough into a pizza round.
Grease pizza pan, dust with semolina or cornmeal and sprinkle with garlic powder.
Precook crust for about 8 minutes. Remove from oven.
Spread crust with pesto.
Top with remaining ingredients and cook for 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and crust is crisp.
Pizza Crust Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup semolina or cornmeal
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan reggiano (not the cheap store brands; grate your own)
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon yeast
Put all ingredients in your bread machine in the order given.
Select the dough cycle.
When dough is done kneading, remove dough and roll into a round crust for immediate use or roll into a ball and freeze for future use.
