My Italian Beef Recipe is one I’ve made over and over. It’s my go-to recipe for large gatherings. I made it for both my children’s graduation open houses (25 pounds of it!), and any time I need a large quantity of sandwich beef.
The beauty of this recipe is that it can be made ahead and frozen. And it tastes even better when the flavors get to hang out awhile – best a day after it’s made.
While other recipes you’ll find here are quick-cooking, this is not. It’s a slow cook recipe that makes the house smell wonderful!
Italian Food Recipe: Italian Beef
Prep Time: 8-10 hours
Serves: Make as many pounds of beef as you need (approx. 1/4 pound per person)
This Italian Beef Recipe has just a few ingredients. Once in the slow cooker, you can let it simmer all day without much more work. I use 3 pounds of beef and it’s plenty to serve 4-6 with leftovers for the freezer.
- 3-5 pounds of chuck roast, thawed
- 1 bulb of garlic, peeled and cloves slightly smashed
- 3 tablespoons of dried Italian seasoning (I use basil, oregano, and thyme)
- 1-2 cups of beef broth (or water)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Hard rolls for serving
Spray your crock pot with non-stick cooking spray.
Place thawed roast in pot.
Cut slits with a small knive on all sides of the roast.
Insert one clove of garlic in each slit.
Add beef broth to pot.
Add dried Italian seasoning.
Slow cook 8-10 hours or until you can shred beef with 2 forks.
Serve a mound of this delicious Italian Beef on a hard roll with a tablespoon of the juice. Enjoy!
