Italian cuisine has evolved through the centuries with roots as far back as the 4th century. Italian ingredients and dishes vary by region. Many traditions and customs that are now recognized as distinctly Italian, can be identified by their regions of origin, including food. Many Italian dishes that were once regional have spread across the country and now have many variations.
Cheese and wine are a major part of the Italian cooking. Coffee, especially espresso, has also become important.
I LOVE coffee! One of my favorites is the Italian Roast (Dark) from Trader Joe’s. My other favorites come from my very own local coffee roaster, European Roasterie. I’m lucky to have such good coffee roasted so close to home.
Here’s a great article about the importance of coffee in Italian culture.
Another coffee I drink often is Lavazzia which you can find at most Italian markets or sometimes in the International section of larger grocery stores.
Another coffee I’ve come to love is Torrefazione Italia. I experienced this coffee at a hotel in Orlando while at a convention. Let me tell you — it was THE best part of my morning! I certainly looked forward to having a good cup of coffee with my breakfast. My fav was the Napoli blend. Buy Napoli blend by clicking the image.

The region my family is from is the Abruzzo region in the Province of L’Aquila. Specifically, my great grandmother (Donata Belli Passarelli) and my great grandfather (Carlo Passarelli) were from Alfedena. Alfedena is located in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, in the upper Sangro valley.
